Results of studies related to inhaled corticosteroids

Inhaled corticosteroids are ordinarily recommended in case of early asthma complications.
According to some recent researches, one may enhance the normal does of inhaled steroids by eight times, but positive effects will be not increased in such case. Ejaz Yousef, a specialist who has been involved in these researches, states that if a doctor sees that medical position of a patient becomes worse, he/she can indicate applying oral steroids instead of enhancing the measure of inhaled corticosteroids. Increasing the measure of inhaled steroids is not without any undesirable symptom. This factor causes different side reactions. For example, the hypothalamic-pituitary adrenal axis can be suppressed in such case.  
Usage of inhaled corticosteroids was considered to be alternative to using oral products. It was in 1997. It was fixed to prescribe inhaled corticosteroids as alternatives of oral preparations that are useful for patients with asthma exacerbations.
Later, some studies have displayed that usage of enhanced doses of inhaled corticosteroids regularly doesn’t increase benefits.
Yousef and his colleagues have conducted a research that implicated almost 200 children of 2-17 years. These kids were given inhaled steroids during 3 months. They were chosen randomly for treatment for a period of 12 days. Any kid that had asthma complications was given inhaled steroids. Then the results were evaluated by the doctors.
No any child that smoked, had symptoms of chronic asthma or lung pathology was involved in the study.
Patients had to inform about their side effects per telephone within 72 hours.  Thus, it was reported about cough during nighttime, wheeze, shortness of breath and intolerance  for exercises. Every sign was evaluated according to a score which was ranged from 0 to 4. 0 meant none; 4 meant the highest severity level.
Only four children out of 82 the children that were given enhanced measures of inhaled steroids had to administer systemic corticosteroids. 2 of them were given doubled quantities; others two were applying the quantity that was more enhanced by 8 times than a normal one.
According to the results of the research, effectiveness of the preparations, placebo effect, supervision of specialists and treatment of patients during early stages of asthma complications were responsible for acquiring good results.
This as well as other researches demonstrate that not every story about steroids is linked with abuse and usage of them as doping. Steroids are useable for a lot of medical purposes.
