“Addiction to steroids led to the corruption”, - a former police officer tried to argue

The former West Chest Police Department David Busemeyer tried to convince a judge that his addiction to anabolic steroids had led to his corruption. But the former cop couldn’t convince the judge. As a result, the former police officer was sentenced to a half of a year in jail. David Busemeyer was pleaded guilty to leaking confidential information of the Police Department that started an investigation linked with a steroid dealer.
Busemeyer confirmed in the court that he had been furious and upset because of his addiction to steroids.
Richard Skelton, the defense attorney for the former police officer, tried to convince the judge that his client had to be cured from his addiction. The attorney tried to manifest that it would be the best sentence for this person’s crime.
According to some court documents, Busemeyer applied steroids for 4 years. Moreover, the former police official took 10-15 pain pills under prescriptions to relieve pains caused by steroids.  
But the judge rejected such excuse. It seemed at the beginning that he planned to hand down even harsher sentence but then he gave a lighter sentence because he had to follow sentencing guidelines.
The judge Spaeth claimed that Busemeyer had imperiled own safety and safety of other police officials. He imperiled reputation of the whole police department.
 It became evident that David Busemeyer had extra-marital relationship with the sister of the drug dealer that was investigated by the West Chest Police Department. Busemeyer informed his girlfriend and his brother that an investigation to bust the distributor of steroids began to be conducted.
However Busemeyer didn’t mention the name of the informant, he presented enough information to define who the informant was.
Police officers raided the house of Busemeyer and found steroids and evidence of his intake of steroids.
It was made a decision not to conduct a prosecution against Busemeyer for possession of steroids and fake prescriptions for administration of these products.
