Usage of steroids for testosterone replacement therapy by athletes is a controversial issue. There are a lot of debates linked with it. It is known by everyone that anabolic steroids and some other related medicines are banned in numerous sports organizations. But if a person should take these medicines under guidelines of his/her doctor for clinical needs, he/she should acquire a therapeutic use exemption. However it is allowed to apply even anabolic steroids for clinical purposes, such athletes are frequently demonized and called “cheaters”. Actually, it is unfair.
What does Dana White, the UFC president, believe about intake of steroids for testosterone replacement therapy? Does he demonize fighters that apply steroids in order to increase their low levels of testosterone? The UFC president states that any man with hypogonadism should administer steroids, if these products are prescribed by his physician. However it is fair, let note why some sportspersons have decreased testosterone levels. It is proven scientifically that steroid abuse may cause suppression of natural testosterone secretion. Thus, some fighters and other athletes that have administered previously steroids for performance-enhancing effects may get hypogonadism. Hence, their health care providers recommend them taking certain steroids in order to enhance their testosterone levels.
According to the UFC president, testosterone replacement therapy is legal for all men, including professional athletes. Thus, if any sportsperson suffers from hypogonadism, he should be allowed to take steroids recommended by his doctor. He should reach normal testosterone levels that characterize any healthy man of his age.
But Dana White underlines that any fighter or another sportsperson who applies anabolic steroids and/or other forbidden medicines for athletic needs must be sentenced to suspensions. It is necessary to make difference between those that apply steroids for therapeutic needs and those that desire to enhance muscle mass and strength with the help these medicines. No one is allowed to administer anabolic steroids for performance-enhancing effects. It is banned in sports. Those that break anti-doping rules must be punished. Sports must be free from doping.
It seems to be surprising that statements of the UFC president differ obviously from affirmations presented by anti-doping officers. As you know, words of certain anti-doping officials for steroid users are much harsher than those said by the UFC president.
